We are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.

“Remember, remember always, that all of us, you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.”

-Franklin D. Roosevelt

To be clear, unless you are of Native American descent then you are the descendant of immigrants. Succinctly speaking if you are not a member of one of the 574 American Indian tribes and Alaska or Hawaii Native entities then you are descended from immigrants as am I.

The League of United Latin American Citizens, known by the acronym LULAC, was formed in 1929. LULAC is a social welfare non-profit and therefore under federal tax law cannot make political endorsements. However, by forming a political action committee, the LULAC Adelante PAC, the Civil Rights group can do what they could never do… until now.  LULAC Adelante PAC chairman Domingo Garcia stated that the civil rights group is “proud to endorse Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because of the real issues facing Latino communities and all Americans across the nation; we can trust them to do what is right for our community and the country.”

This is a big deal. There are approximately 63.7 million Latino or Hispanic people living in the U.S. according to the 2022 census. The Pew Research Center has estimated that there are about 36.2 million eligible Latino voters in the United States.

The rhetoric put forth by the Republican candidate and his lackeys in the so-called Project 2025 aims to eliminate H2-A and H2-B work visas in10 to 20 years. This kind of boneheaded thinking indicates a deep misunderstanding of how the economy works in the United States. But wait… there’s more; this level of stupidity would also extend to H-1B “high-skilled” visas reducing their issuance. This kind of draconian policy shift has no place in a country that has in its past welcomed immigrants with the words “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”.

By the way, to all those 574 American Indian Tribes and Alaska and Hawaii Native entities…  thank you for letting us stay in your beautifully complex country.

Peace.
